Smith uses mediums and ideas from nature. She literally puts grass into her pieces to emphasize the nature aspect of the pieces. Smith doesn't use bright colors or crazy patterns to catch the attention of her viewers. Smith raises her metals to make the bumps  and texture. She uses organic shapes rather than something traditional which goes along with the nature aspect of her work.
