Chrome aluminum crystals in a chrome aluminum solution, at 20x magnification.
The shadows formed by the back-lighting on these crystals create an geometric pattern that could be useful in design. Also, the macro-crystals in crystalline glazes are formed from metal ion compounds similar to these.
